Health Benefits of Crafting...

.....Particularly knitting (and I'm sure crocheting as well)!

I have found that knitting helps me come to my center. When I am stressed or sad and I work on a project I feel as though everything is right again or at least something is right. I can control something in my life and that is empowering for me. As a mother of four (14, 11, 7, 5), I feel I've lost a little control of my household. I'm at the mercy of their extra-curricular activities and their varying moods. I can retreat to my room to knit for a while and when my kids need me I can easily put it down knowing that what I control is there waiting for me. It's an exercise to help me prepare for my day and a reward at the end of it.
It's nice to know that my craft helps me in my life now and the future as described in an article that  Lion Brand posted on facebook from The Washington Post. Might crafts such as knitting offer long term-health benefits? Check it out, it's a great read.

What is your craft and how it help you?

WIP Wednesday

I love sharing WIP's it helps keep me motivated. This first one got put away back in the fall because I chose to participate in a boutique selling my hats and scarves. All I did was knit hats and scarves for a long time, now I'm excited to start working on something else again.

Pattern: Currant Cardigan, by Margie Mitchell
Yarn: Berroco Vintage

Next is my own pattern, I talked about it in my last post so I won't say much. I'm just excited that it's getting closer. The yarn for my friends version of this should be coming today which hopefully will motivate me to finish my test version here faster.

Pattern: Kathy Sweater Vest, by Emily Cummings
Yarn: Wool Bam Boo Classic Elite Yarns
I can't wait to see everyone else's wip's this week. What are you working on?

As If I Needed Another Reason to knit.

I love to knit. My room is filled with wip's, from my desk to my night stand. Let's not even get started on my craft room. Now I have justification for my craft! Vogue Knitting shared an article on Facebook the other day so I thought if you haven't seen it yet it's worth a read. Want to be a better worker? Get a creative hobby. Enjoy.

Time for Swatching

I came home from a week of hiking in the desert to this wonderful package. I love Knit Picks deliveries!
I only wish I'd ordered more colors to play with the fair isle book. The white Galileo is for a simple sweater vest a friend has commissioned me, stay tuned for that pattern to be released soon.
Time to get swatching!
